Week Three

Kudos to Keith Fletcher for cracking the whip on me. He’s right – it’s been almost a week since I’ve posted a progress note. So:

>20120119-154018.jpgOn Day 19, I weigh 270 lbs. Eight pounds down from my starting weight. I’ve met my calorie goals (or come in under it) on each day but one. On days where I’ve worked out, the difference is drastic.

That’s one of the pitfalls of working out at night – I fear not getting into the gym during the day, so I eat light. Then I’m 600 calories under my goal and it’s far too late to eat.

On the subject of working out: I’ve moved from doing a straight 30 minutes on the elliptical trainer, on the same amount of resistance, to 35 minutes with a “cross country” program. I’ll get my heart used to that level before I crank up the time or program some more.

I feel good. It’s not really the full life-changing euphoria I’ve felt on earlier attempts to get lighter, which were ultra-low calorie restrictive diets. However, I do feel better after every meal, and feel awesome after workouts. And it’ll only get better.

I will do this.

Congrats bro! One note though, when you say you’re under calories and it’s far to late to eat, that is a myth. You can eat at night and it doesn’t matter how much, as long as it’s within your calories in vs. calories out range. So if you needed 600 calories, it doesn’t matter that it’s late in the day when you consume them.

What Jagger said – the biggest problem with eating late at might is that it’s too often junk food, and ultimately too many calories, which results in a weight gain.

Also, I think your previous “life-changing euphoria” was probably more like light-headedness from lack of food. ;) Seriously though, good for you for making positive, sustainable lifestyle changes. Anything else means going back to bad habits, and amazingly enough, the weight just comes back when you do that. This “simple” (on paper, but not in reality) approach of eating less and moving more will add years to your life, AND life to the extra years. Trust me on this.
